2001 Sand Search
Amelia Island is a 14 mile-long coastal barrier island bordered by St. Marys Entrance to the north, the Nassau Sound to the south, and is located in Nassau County, Florida.  As such, it represents the State’s northernmost ocean-facing shoreline.

There are two (2) project sponsors, the Florida Park Service (FPS) and the South Amelia island Shore Stabilization Association, Inc. (SAISSA), who propose to place some 2 million cubic yards of sand along the existing shoreline.

This report documents the findings of a geotechnical investigation to identity a suitable quantity of beach quality sand for purposes of constructing a Phase I beach stabilization project for the south end of Amelia Island. Florida.
